Understanding Media

Marshall McLuhan
Year read: approximately 1964, my age, approximately 23

I read about McLuhan in a review in the New Yorker, and I had to get and read the book immediately. So did a lot of other people, and it molded the thinking of a generation. McLuhan's insight was that media (television, movies, writing, the automobile, etc.) affects not only society but the working of our minds.McLuhan was influential on my thinking and my Masters thesis. With the rise of the Internet, McLuhan is again at the center of discussions about media.
